Charlotte Charbonnel a élu domicile à Maubuisson, une ancienne abbaye royale fondée en 1236 et située dans le Val-d’Oise, en région parisienne. Le temps d’une recherche de plusieurs années et d’une grande exposition in situ, l’artiste a fait de ce site médiéval son terrain de jeu. Elle a ouvert son atelier en mouvement aux forces énergétiques du lieu, et s’est fait l’autrice d’un grand récit aux ramifications magnétiques. L’investissement sculptural des espaces est fondé sur une partition précise, à l’écoute du moindre indice architectural, en un écosystème par lequel toutes les œuvres communiquent. De même, ce texte se veut une flânerie entrelacée, suivant le parcours proposé, en un décryptage librement inspiré par l’histoire de l’art et de l’architecture, de l’art cistercien à l’art minimal.

Charlotte Charbonnel has taken up residence at Maubuisson, a former royal abbey founded in 1236 in the Val d’Oise, not far from Paris. In the course of several years’ work and a major site-specific exhibition, she has made this medieval setting, her playground. With her shifting studio open to the ambient energies, she has become the creator of a splendid, magnetically ramified narrative. Her sculptural handling of the spaces in question is founded on a precise partitioning, alert to the least architectural hint, into an ecosystem of intercommunication between all the works. In the same way, this text is intended as an intertwining meander along the exhibition trail, a process of decipherment freely inspired by the history of art and architecture from the Cistercian to the minimal.
