Ormeau, 2008

Listening object. Dimensions variable, auricle in faience (19cm), hearing aid, wooden box (20 x 28cm).

Ormeau, hybrid listening object, is an extension of the hearing aid, a preexisting instrument, which amplifies and distorts ambient sounds via a canal and an auricle in faience.
I wanted to find an attractive form which would allow me to manipulate a hearing aid— an object intimately associated with hearing impairment and often perceived as repulsive.
The sound colored by the faience evoke the sound of the sea hollow.
